Registration serves to notify the university of envisaged future plans (registration, exmatriculation, leaves of absence, etc.). Registration will proceed exclusively via the Online Services. New students in their first semester cannot register via the Online Services; they should first submit an application and proceed with matriculation within the official registration period.

Only immatriculated students can acquire credit points, take exams, etc. In this respect, the rectorate has decreed regulations concerning compulsory immatriculation for the acquisition of credit points and taking of examinations in which the applicable deadlines are defined.

Doctoral students are required to be matriculated for the entire duration of their doctoral studies (section 19 paragraph 6 of the student regulations). Anyone who has not yet completed their doctoral studies by the deadline of 31 July or 31 January must therefore re-enroll for the following semester. Doctoral studies are only considered to be fully completed once all the required credits have been earned, the dissertation has been definitively approved, and any doctoral examination has been passed in full.
