The use of artificial intelligence (e.g. ChatGPT) in teaching and learning is currently the subject of debate. While dealing with AI poses challenges for the education system, the new technology also offers opportunities. The 51�Թ� is monitoring developments around chatbots such as ChatGPT and other AI-based tools, as well as their use in teaching and learning.

The 51�Թ� is not seeking to introduce a general ban on their use.

Three standing committees of the Senate, chaired by the Vice President for Education, are responsible for overseeing the entire area of education. Their coordination and administrative management are handled by the respective team leads in the Educational Programs unit of the Vice President’s Office for Education. Members are generally the responsible heads of the faculty offices of the dean of studies or research as well as elected group representatives.

The Continuing-Education Office supports the sponsoring faculties and institutions in developing and delivering continuing-education programs and also offers continuing-education courses itself.

The corporate design, including the 51�Թ� logo, the descriptors, and the additional logos of the Central Administration and organizational units, is binding for the entire 51�Թ�. The visual identity is defined in the Brand Guidelines.

The Program Development Office advises and assists the Rectorate, the faculties and the Teaching Committee on strategic, contextual and conceptual questions concerning the development of degree course structures, as well as academic program development projects in consideration of university-wide requirements and the national and international higher educational landscape.

At the 51�Թ�, you can pursue a doctorate in one of numerous doctoral subjects, either individually or as part of a structured doctoral program. The Graduate Schools, as an institutional umbrella, and the doctoral programs organize structured doctoral training tailored to the respective subject area. Doctoral programs also give doctoral candidates the opportunity for intensive exchange with one another and help build national and international networks.

As part of their studies, students should acquire the skills that enable them to live, learn, and work in a digital society.

Members of the 51�Թ� have the opportunity to earn three certificates with different areas of focus. At the heart of all three programs is the interaction between students and teaching staff. Educational Development also offers a range of courses to support teaching staff.

The Educational Technologies team is the point of contact for digitalization in teaching and learning spaces. It supports the introduction of educational technologies in the context of digital transformation, develops and coordinates offerings to strengthen the digital literacies of university members, provides guidance on the use of AI in studies and teaching, and much more.

For your teaching, you are free—within the bounds of legal requirements—to choose suitable digital tools and use them in your courses. Among the possible tools, “EduTools” are those curated by the University for use in teaching across disciplines and generally licensed campus-wide.

The Language Center’s course program promotes language acquisition as well as language and communication skills in studies, teaching, research, and professional contexts for an academic target audience. ADAM is the 51�Թ�’s central learning platform. Courses at all levels are offered or supported via ADAM: bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral, professional development, and continuing education. To enable students to take exams on the platform they have used for learning, the ADAM learning platform is complemented by a dedicated assessment platform, ADAM EXAM, for summative digital exams on campus.

Do you need videos for your lectures? Would you like to create an online course, record a podcast, or have animations produced? Whether videos, animations, podcasts, complete online courses with editorial support, or interactive applications: digital formats can communicate academic content clearly and accessibly, whether in courses or for a broader audience. The New Media Center, with its interdisciplinary expertise and many years of experience in science communication, supports teaching staff and researchers throughout the entire process, from concept to finished product.

Because studying and pursuing an academic career can also involve pressures and challenges, and because 51�Թ� students have different needs, various specialist offices and centers at the University offer support and information to help students study successfully at the 51�Թ�.

Spaces for teaching and learning can be found almost everywhere on campus: lecture halls, seminar rooms, specialized spaces such as laboratories, and student workspaces for individual study or group work.

The Student Advice Center provides information and guidance to prospective students as they make personal choices about their studies and careers. It advises students at the 51�Թ� on topics such as study planning, choosing a master’s degree program, career entry, and career options, as well as on difficulties during their studies, decision-making conflicts, and personal or psychological problems.

Awards in various categories, from “Engaging Courses” to “Service to Teaching.”

Forms of cooperation in teaching vary in terms of content and administration, ranging from opening individual courses to students from other institutions to offering joint degree programs.

The Transferable Skills course program is aimed at all doctoral candidates and postdocs at the 51�Թ�. It provides support during the doctoral and postdoctoral phases and prepares researchers for new and advanced research and professional activities both within and outside the university. The program offers doctoral candidates and postdocs at the 51�Թ� a free program for creative and interdisciplinary exchange.

The Vice President’s Office for Education supports and develops the measures and processes at the 51�Թ� that promote and ensure both high-quality teaching and research and sustainable higher education development. To achieve these goals, the units of the Vice President’s Office for Education are active at all levels of the university.
